Recently I had the pleasure of making my own silver ring with the help and guidance of Kate Reid, senior jeweller at Larsen Jewellery. The idea behind this experience is more so one of a romantic nature, and if I wasn’t already married I would have jumped at the option of making each other’s wedding bands. What’s more personal than designing and creating your partners wedding ring!!
As it was just me making a ring for me (still romantic right? – haha) the whole process took around 2 hours. There is a surprising amount of design options available, being able to choose from classic bands to unique designs and even mixing metals, adding diamonds and engraving.
I was surprised how traditional the making process was – I was handling flames, beating with hammers, soldering…the technical terms are: milling, bending, soldering and finishing up with filing, buffing and polishing. That may sound a little daunting but no creative skills or experiences are required and Larsen guarantee a perfect result.
If you do head in with your partner, the experience lasts around 4 hours and there is a light lunch served with champagne at completion. In addition, you’ll be given photos of your experience! Kate took the shots of me, deep in my creative concentration zone, included in this post.
I would also like to note, Larsen Jewellery are proudly certified Fairtrade gold producers and only use conflict free diamonds.
Thanks Larsen Jewellery and thanks Kate!
(All diamond and precious stone jewellery worn by me is available for purchase from Larsen Jewellery Sydney)
What an amazing experience!
I would love to try and design my own ring!
So fun to see the process from beginning to end! And the result looks so incredible! What a gorgeous piece!

This is so fantastic and how fun to design your own jewelry. I can see how fun it would be to get custom made rings as a couple too. I love hearing that the process is still old fashioned and manual which also makes it more unique and special. Having a piece you can design yourself and see come to life from beginning to end is an amazing experience. Xoxo, Christine

Ahh I wish I saw your post before my partner and I went shopping for my engagement ring. I’ve always loved the idea of customisation especially when it comes to such expensive things like diamonds.
It sounds like a fabulous experience Jill and we might have to check it out for our wedding bands 😉

OMG what a great experience! I am surprised that it only took you two hours to make your ring. It is truly stunning and classic. How amazing it is to be able to see the process on how rings are made. I would love to go to Larsen Jewellery with my boyfriend and enjoy the champagne and jewelry making! If only I were closer!
Thanks for sharing!

What a truly incredible experience with Larsen Jewelry! Totally appropriate to go by yourself! #treatyoself Also, thinking for myself and my husband, it would be an incredible anniversary gift to each other and especially to be a part of the process! Magical no matter the stage of life you’re in. I love that they are ethical. That’s a founding piece for me when looking for jewelers. I love that everything is hand crafted! It always makes my heart happy to see true precision and skill put into it!

Wow that is seriously so amazing! I’ve always wanted to make my own jewelry too. I actually use to when I was a kid and have touched on it here and there but have never full force done it. I really should take a class because I think it’s so special to make unique pieces. Thanks for sharing this! I love that you got to experience this
WOW!!! I love this idea. I have never heard of this either. I am about to check out the website right now. I wonder if these places are all over. I’m not married but I think this is the most wonderful idea ever. I just seems so creative and I’m sure it was so fun getting to design something yourself. You seemed to do the whole thing on your own which is awesome. I’m sure there is guidance when needed, but this idea is wonderful. I would love to do this in the future when it’s time to get married. This just seems so special.

Wow this is incredible. I think that it’s absolutely amazing that you got to make your own ring! That’s so cool! The process seems so interesting but slightly frustrating, haha. I really want to check out this website. Currently wondering if there’s maybe a place near where I live where I can do something like this. This seems like such an experience. Thanks for sharing!
I think I’m a bit too clumsy to make my own jewelry, let alone my own ring haha. I would have thought the process would take way longer than 2 hours to complete. The good thing about doing it yourself is that you can create it just the way you like it! I also love how Larsen uses conflict free diamonds!
